
Ars Technica reports that Reddit (one of the original online social news outlets) has opened up their code. I would like to see them join the Open Source Initiative. This is still a huge step toward companies again working with smart people. They are relying on their employees to create a better product with the same tools. This allows all the fans of Reddit to contribute and I'm sure a not so small number of them are very intelligent and will be helping to improve Reddit as they improve their own.
An interesting sidebar is that Ars Technica and Reddit are now owned by the same parent company Condé Nast Publications. This can only bode well for both A.T. and Reddit as Condé Nast Publications has an impressive list of brands:
